there's more to life than reading books

“What she was finding also was how one book led to another, doors kept opening wherever she turned and the days weren't long enough for the reading she wanted to do.”

Back to You - Priscilla Glenn I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of Lauren and Michael, best friends in high school who have not spoken to each other in 9 years. The story was well-paced, it kept me eagerly turning the pages wanting to uncover the event which had left them estranged for so long. It is told from both Lauren and Michael’s POV and is layered with chapters told from past and present perspective, giving us an insight into both of their thinking. There is no over the top drama or angst in this book although Lauren’s reluctance and caution in being reunited with Michael had the right amount of emotion and intrigue to have me invested in the story.

I enjoyed not knowing whether the event which had ended their friendship was so huge and unforgiving that it was going to be a deal breaker or not. I suppose because I read so much angst-ridden romance I was expecting a little more drama between Lauren and Michael. It was actually refreshing that this story didn’t go down that path.

A well-written, realistic and sweet story.
