Faith and Fidelity follows the relationship of Evan and Matt. Evan is a cop, a recent widower and father of four children. He is barely coping with the responsibilities of being a single father and full time cop. Matt too is coming to grips with some major changes in his life. He's working as a security guard after a forced early retirement from the police force, something he has not quite gotten over. He's unhappy with his work, his life and his current relationship status. Matt and Evan meet at a work function and slowly develop a friendship in the following months. They initially find comfort in each other from the disappointments and struggles in their respective lives. They've both only ever been in hetero relationships and are ill-equipped to deal with or understand their growing attraction and feelings for each other.
The story is well-paced, if not a little slow at times. It didn't gloss over their troubles or obstacles, dealing with them quite realistically and thoughtfully. Evan struggles with developing feelings for someone, let alone a man, after the loss of his wife and worries about the affect his relationship with Matt will have on his children. Matt adjusts to their relationship a little easier than Evan, embracing his feelings for Evan quite early on. He craves the solidarity and warmth of Evan's family after being single and childless for most of his life.
A sweet, slow-burning, almost first-time love story.
