there's more to life than reading books

This book joins the elusive list of books to keep me up all night. They don’t come around very often and it was not expected for this book. I mean, look at the cover and the book description – sounds all light and fluffy. OK, so there’s mention of a love triangle which should have been my first warning that things could get ugly. This book has you floating along thinking you’re reading one of those typical .99c amazon finds when all of a sudden you’re looking around thinking what’s going on? How did we get here? Why am I still up at 3am?

There were numerous times I wanted to throttle this book and its characters. After all it contains cheating and lying all directed towards the GOOD guy. There were many “oh no she didn’t” moments but I was already too invested in the story to mind them as much as I normally would. Emmy (such a cute name, btw), our protagonist, is 30ish and I found myself excusing some pretty low behaviour from her. Not because she should have known better (obviously she didn’t) but because I felt she was owed a little slack. And I think I started to like her a bit. If she was 19 she probably would have annoyed me more than she did. She’s a single, independent, unmarried (apparently that’s important) woman who was pursued by two guys at the same time. She didn’t set out to hurt anyone initially, but she made some poor decisions that led to some pretty destructive results for all involved. Just when you think you have the characters and the story sussed out, it veers off into a different direction which was I couldn’t put the book down.

I don’t want to say too much about the plot because I think it would be better to just read this book without knowing too much. Just know that things do get a tad dramatic and angsty, there is unexcused cheating and lying around every corner but it’s not on purpose, it’s only accidentally on purpose. Also there is a revelation towards the end of the book which almost excuses some of the characters’ bad behaviour and I suppose leads to a little redemption for Emmy. She has to work hard for her HEA so I found the ending satisfying.
